My mission as an artist is to create a piece of art inspired by your truths. If you speak from your true self and act from your true self you will create strong, dynamic relationships. Your vulnerability and knowledge of your True Self becomes your power.
I have lived in British Columbia most of my life. I was brought up in Kamloops and spent a great deal of my childhood in the surrounding forests, mountains and lakes. I moved to Victoria when I was sixteen and swiftly fell in love with the island and the swell of the tides. These experiences deeply affected me and influenced my relationship to art.
My formal education had nothing to do with art and I attended the University of Victoria and received an Economics degree and then an MBA from McMaster University. I have always been a creative person and about 10 years ago I started to paint and began to distinguish myself as an artist. I am mostly self-taught but have taken numerous courses and workshops from local and international artists. I would say I’ve been mostly influenced by the expressionist movement, and by Modigliani in particular.
My favorite medium is acrylic paint and I often add collage elements to my work. I continue to explore various painting methods and applications and consider myself an eternal student of the arts. I have been incredibly lucky to have been invited to teach various workshops throughout the last few years and this has proven to be an immensely rewarding experience. It is a joy and passion of mine to share what I have learned so that others can explore their own creative paths.
I love painting florals, landscapes and nudes but my favorite is the portrait. I am fascinated by the role of the portrait in our lives and its representational nature. My portrait painting method is expressionistic and different from the standard “sitting”. Rather, I raise the question: Imagine if you could capture the essence of your truest self; What would she look like? Is she dressed in furs and flanked by wolves? Is she a fairy or woodlands nymph? A warrior, or princess or creator of magic?
My aim is to provide you with a piece of art that reflects your true self; that acknowledges your soul, and your vulnerability and the power that is truly you. The portrait becomes your reminder of your truest, deepest self.
On a more personal note I’m the Mom of two wonderful grown up daughters and I have a sweet little dog named Zoey who doesn't shed, bark or scratch at doors. I love red wine and I have a cute handyman named Bob.
I’m a member of Zebra Art Collective, a group of 15 artists who share studio space and a member of Saanich Peninsula Arts and Crafts Association, and Victoria Arts Council.
Please reach out to me if you would like to find out more about my process and application, or if you are curious about the various workshops that I offer. I am available for commissions and special requests. I would love to hear from you.
